Memorial Day at Lincoln City

We decided to take a last minute trip to Lincoln City for Memorial Day. Luckily, the condo we rented was available Sunday and Monday night so we packed up and headed south early Sunday morning. (Packing for two small children and two adults and cramming it in the truck is, uh, interesting!) Ellie finally got to use the portable DVD player we received for Christmas and she watched Mary Poppins, of course, on the way. The headphones were a little confusing for her, so she listened to half the movie, then just watched...silently...the second half!
The weather was not bad for the beach, overcast and slightly windy, but no rain until Tuesday morning when we left. Ellie absolutely loved the beach. She spent her time building and destroying sandcastles, burying her feet and running from the waves.
The weather Monday morning was perfect for kite flying. She had been talking about flying a kite for quite sometime, as her favorite movie, Mary Poppins, has a song about flying a kite. However, she said the kite was too big and informed me that it was actually just Daddy's kite, not hers.
Easton was a trooper. We did a lot of outlet shopping and eating out, but he persevered. He did great on the beach in the front pack, his car seat or laying on a blanket. His favorite activities included sleeping and watching the seagulls. Aaron and I have noticed that he makes non-stop noises, these little grunting noises to tell us he is mad or tired or grumpy. Then there's Ellie. She sings and makes up words to her own songs or asks questions or talks non-stop, too. Between the four of us, we were laughing a lot.
Tuesday morning we packed up and, after Easton's morning nap, headed down for a quick visit to Newport to explore the aquarium (or aquaria, as Miss Ellie called it). Although it was a quick visit, we had fun exploring the fishes and walking through the outside exhibits in the rain. Ellie also got an owie...she even showed the guy at the restaurant we ate at later and earned his sympathy along with a bandaid.
